In a twist of supreme irony, it transpires that the very people who are being denied medical surgery as a result of being classified ‘overweight’ or ‘obese’, may be those who are being prescribed pharmaceutical drugs for a variety of common ailments.
Many common prescription drugs slow down the metabolism in a major way, meaning that it doesn’t matter how much exercise or dieting you do, the medicine you are taking puts a halt to any possible weight loss and even makes sure you put weight on.
SGA’s or Second Generation Antipsychotics, are the worst offenders with a recorded weight gain of 42lbs in some people. Prozac for example contains olanzapine which stops the effectiveness of serotonin. Altered metabolism and a severe reduction of the effectiveness of insulin are just two of the side effects of this drug.
Messing with insulin production can ultimately lead to pancreatitis and possible kidney failure. A swollen abdomen, nausea, vomiting, a rapid pulse and fever are all signals of a malfunctioning pancreas. Since the pancreas produces other hormones that control intestinal function and enzymes involved in the digestion of food, it is easy to see how SGA’s can seriously harm your health.
Additionally people taking drugs for high blood pressure, diabetes, and heartburn have also noticed substantial weight gain, and anyone taking steroids should know that they completely shut down the immune system.
Tens of millions of prescription drugs are dispensed each and every year as more and more people become sick.
Perhaps the question…
‘Why are so many people becoming overweight and sick?’
should instead be…
‘Are the drug companies really interested in improving health, or is their main priority the last figure listed at the bottom of their balance sheet?’
